    Introduction to Hermit Crabs' Ecology

Land Hermit crabs have two special moments when they venture near the seashore. The first is when they are born as tiny larvae known as "zoea." The second is during their reproductive phase. However, these journeys to the sea for reproduction come with their fair share of challenges. Carrying ill-fitting shells while crossing roads to reach the ocean can pose numerous obstacles. If the shells they carry are not sturdy enough, they become susceptible to being roadkill.

Environmental conservation ideas and Why shouldn’t seashells be collected?

On land, there is an abundance of snail shells. Despite their fragility, the unique structure of snail shells, particularly the special air chambers at their tails, makes it easier for land hermit crabs to be swept away by the waves, leading to unfortunate drownings during their journey to the seashore for reproduction.

    Engraving “Shellplate” number

To facilitate the tracking of hermit crab populations and contribute to academic research, we provide participants with unique numerical identifiers, which serve as doorplate numbers for their hermit crab homes. These numbers are then carefully engraved on the shells using an electric engraving pen.

    Placing a Sweet new home

Once the hermit crab homes are prepared, an exciting mission begins, akin to placing them in their new residences. Participants can witness the hermit crabs exploring their surroundings and searching for their ideal new homes along the seashore.
